2009-02-09 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - The Political Machine 2008 - Worthplaying
7.8 "Ultimately, The Political Machine 2008 is an excellent addition to a strategy fan's library. Though is forgoes the engines of war most often associated with those titles, it offers an intensely interesting, fast-paced and addictive distraction. Though it may not win any graphic contests against the current PC game heavy hitters, the game is undeniably fun and engaging to a point that belies its simple origins."

2009-02-04 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Grand Theft Auto IV - Worthplaying
7.0 "Technically speaking, Grand Theft Auto IV for the PC is not a bad game, and it sets out to hit all of the notes that it attempted. The entire game has a feeling of misdirected effort, as if Rockstar sat down to rejuvenate the franchise without knowing particularly how and simply stuck every idea, gimmick and cliché they could think of into one big ball, like some sort of Katamari of game elements with the old GTA feeling at the core."

2009-01-07 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway - Worthplaying
7.0 "It's a poignant story hampered with some aging gameplay mechanics. In an already crowded genre, the gimmicks and familiarities are really only going to appeal to series stalwarts. Unfortunately for the Brothers in Arms saga, there are better, more polished games to be had out there right now, and it may get forgotten for not being all that it could be."

7.2 "For players who can't get their fill of killing hordes of monsters and collecting loot no matter what the local NPC may ask them to do for it, opening the nearest portal to Ancaria's past might just be the thing that their sword arm or wizardly aspirations will enjoy as the perfect distraction."

8.9 "Despite all of this, it's perhaps telling that most of the negative points have been shunted into the last few paragraphs. As major as some sound, the superb RvR makes up for it. It's difficult to recommend Warhammer Online to anyone who isn't into player vs. player, as that's the real focus of the game, but for those who do, it's definitely an interesting take."

2008-12-02 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Left 4 Dead - Worthplaying
9.0 "All in all, Left 4 Dead is a shining example of zombies done right in a video game. It's an action-packed riot with gore galore and is four times as fun with friends. If you have even a minor passing interest in zombies, shooters or horror games in general, you shouldn't pass up the opportunity to play it."

2008-12-01 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Worthplaying
8.2 "As much fun as it was to fight for Tim Curry and the Motherland, RA3 has several cracks in its armored plating. For one thing, pathfinding was less than impressive, especially when I'd occasionally catch a missing unit doing the "dance" as it spun in place until I had to move it myself, along with performance issues that would mysteriously slow down the game (and even the menu) on occasion, even with the latest patch and reduced settings."

2008-11-10 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Fallout 3 - Worthplaying
9.6 "The world that Bethesda has put together manages to assuage much of that worry with an engaging RPG that easily stands as a passionate demonstration of their love for the series. As Perlman says at the start, "War never changes," and with Fallout 3, the postapocalyptic spirit of the series continues to march on."
- Far Cry 2 - Worthplaying
7.4 "It's the norm for big-budget titles to offer fewer than 10 gameplay hours, so in this area, Far Cry 2 provides excellent gameplay and replay bang for your buck. While it has several interesting features, Far Cry 2 is not going to reinvent the FPS genre, but if leaving a trail of bodies in your wake is what you're craving, look no further."

8.5 "What is certain now is that Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is another rousing entry in a great series. The beautiful landscapes complement the gritty combat, and thoughtful cinematic techniques breathe life into the engaging characters. Despite the somewhat spotty story and sundry oddities, Hell's Highway is a game you should consider playing twice."

2008-10-10 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - PC IGN
9.0 "The true test of an MMO is the one of time. There’s simply so much to see and do that it would take months to experience the entire game. You can explore different factions and character classes, explore different parts of the world, and play as both Order and Destruction. However, we’re definitely having a lot of fun playing the game, and there’s little doubt that Warhammer Online is off to a model and admirable start."

7.9 "While many of the franchise's traditional gameplay elements return, such as the tactical controls of squads, so do the issues associated with those controls. While the visuals are better, it still has a number of AI issues, making a title that's good, and even better than its console brethren, but not great."

2008-10-06 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - GameSpot
8.5 "Questers and explorers may not find what they're looking for, and certain gameplay systems don't mesh as well as they should. Nevertheless, there's more than enough exciting PVP content here to keep newcomers and veterans alike immersed in the perpetually violent tug of war between the forces of Order and Destruction. Or as the Orcs say: Waaagh! "
- Avencast: Rise Of The Mage - Worthplaying
6.5 "All things considered, Avencast: Rise of the Mage is a very average game on all fronts. For everything that it does right in a given area, it does something wrong. The graphics, for instance, aren't too spectacular in terms of textures, but the flame effects on torches are staggering, and the spell effects are genuinely some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring I've ever seen. "
- Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - GameSpot
8.0 "Preparation and execution are both intricately wrought here, stretched over a campaigns that generally last at least ten hours each. Despite being demanding and time-consuming, Colonization is a great game that benefits from its keen focus, bargain price ($29.99!), and nuanced strategy."

8.5 "But as a single-player game, it provides hours and hours of "just one more turn!" entertainment for resource management gurus. It may get bogged down with micromanagement, it may not have as much variety as Civilization, and it may take a long time to play, but these are merely problems that keep a great game from being a legendary one."

2008-10-02 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - 1Up
7.5 "The specter of maladjusted algorithms is nonexistent here, and what WAR lacks in originality, it makes up for with solutions to persistent problems. Public quests -- areas of the world that loop proximity-triggered quest content -- provide a great, hassle-free alternative to dungeon raiding and, alongside PVP scenarios, guarantee immediately accessible action."

2008-10-01 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Shadowgrounds Survivor - Eurogamer
7.0 "The trouble is that Shadowgrounds was a game bursting with unrealised potential, and this sequel still leaves too much of that potential untouched. The continual lack of online play leaves a particularly obvious hole in the game's score sheet, since with some larger maps and more complex campaign objectives it has all the makings of a major cult hit."
- S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - ActionTrip
7.1 "So, once more, I think the developers would've had a winner on their hands if they invested more time into fine-tuning the AI and ironing out serious bugs, as opposed to merely beefing up the visuals and adding more random side-quests -most of which take you through the same areas we've witnessed the first time around. As a result, Clear Sky is, in fact, an underdeveloped shooter with wasted potential."
- Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis - Eurogamer
7.0 "Frogwares stumbled slightly with its recent Dracula adventure, a rather generic effort that lacked the usual period flair. Nemesis too is not without its rough patches, but still represents a return to form of sorts, another solid Sherlock adventure that showcases better understanding of character, narrative, structure and pace than most of its genre peers."
- Belief And Betrayal - Eurogamer
4.0 "Poorly translated and badly acted, there's little here to distract from the terrible gameplay. Dialogue is overlong, yet in all its prattle very little of substance is conveyed. The sole glimmers of interest are the ability to eventually swap to two other characters and advance three (stupid) plot threads at once, and the concept of including the character's thoughts as inventory items."
- Warhammer: Mark Of Chaos - Battle March - 1Up
7.0 "I tried several times to find a multiplayer game, but only one person was ever playing...and we couldn't connect to one another. Quite a shame; I think the multiplayer would've been great fun. My advice: If you want to play multiplayer, buy this game with friends; otherwise, you'll just get bored waiting around in a cold, lonely, empty server -- not exactly the best front in which to wage war."
- Mount & Blade - Eurogamer
5.0 "There are foundations here for something really quite special, but in its current state the game is nowhere close to delivering on its promises. With an enthusiastic community of mod builders and some shrewd patches from the developer, Mount & Blade could evolve into a game more deserving of your time. Right now, it's only suitable for those willing to make the best of a flawed experience."
- Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People Episode 1: Homestar Ruiner - GameSpy
8.0 "Gamers who aren't fans of Homestar Runner won't get much out of this, but if you enjoy the work of the Brothers Chaps and are looking for a few hours of primary-colored mayhem, you might want to give the first episode a spin. "

2008-09-29 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - GameSpy
9.5 "The game comes loaded with PvP and PvE content that -- balance issues notwithstanding -- is as good as or much better than that of any other MMO on the market. Warhammer Online is the next great game of Player vs. Player and Realm vs. Realm content and we have the feeling that somewhere on the other side of reality, the Chaos god Tzeentch is smiling."
- Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - PC IGN
8.7 "The presentation here is very polished and the design is deeply captivating. To be sure, the sophisticated economic aspects of the game only appeals to a very specific type of gamer so, while it's an amazing game, it's definitely not for everyone. But any gamer who wasn't scared off by the complications and challenges of Civilization will feel right at home here."

2008-09-26 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Lego Batman: The Videogame - GameSpy
9.3 "LEGO Batman is simple enough for kids to mash their way through, but addicting and deep enough to hold the interest of their parents, and the rare game perfect for them to play together. It's at least worth a rental, although there's a good chance you'll want to spend more than a weekend with the latest exploits of the Dark Knight."
- Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - 1Up
9.0 "Warhead's a clear demonstration that Crytek learned its lessons from Crysis. Sure, it's still got some troubling flaws, but they're not as big as Crysis' "this awesome sandbox game became a corridor shooter." If anything, since this is just an expansion-sized update, it makes me wonder what Crytek will do for its next full game."

2008-09-25 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Lego Batman: The Videogame - PC IGN
7.7 "LEGO Batman is good fun, but it's really just the same thing we've seen before. I don't think the LEGO formula needs much of a change, but certainly the common issues with the series should no longer exist. If you're looking to have a laugh with a buddy or you want something kid-friendly, this is your game."
- Devil May Cry 4 - Worthplaying
8.8 "Overall, the magic is back, and the new hero doesn't detract from things in the slightest.Devil May Cry 4 is a great capstone to the trilogy, and the PC port takes exceptional advantage of the graphical potential of many gamers' PCs, while leaving the top-notch console gameplay untouched."
- Crysis Warhead - ActionTrip
8.3 "Despite of what some of you might think, Crysis Warhead is actually a good deal, perhaps even better than Crysis. For $29.99 (which indeed is cheaper than a lot of releases today) it offers a compelling single-player ride (provided you're an "enthusiast"), new weapons and a satisfying and rather enjoyable multiplayer component."

2008-09-24 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - GameSpot
7.0 "Too bad it's as buggy as its predecessor, and throws in some new quirks of its own that break the spell. Nevertheless, while Clear Sky may get even better with some patches and fan modifications (much like Shadow of Chernobyl did), it's still a worthwhile journey through a stark world that, at times, feels all too real."
- Warhammer: Mark Of Chaos - Battle March - GameZone
6.5 "Warhammer: Mark of Chaos – Battle March offers the additions that you’d expect from an RTS expansion, like new races, modes, and so on. However, the new features don’t really feel like they add much to the formula, making the expansion feel quite stagnant, even if you’re a fan of the Warhammer universe."

2008-09-23 00:00:14 | The Review Outpost Team - Spore - Worthplaying
8.5 "In sum, Spore is not the gaming paradigm shift it might have been touted as, and it is quite possibly overrated. However, that's not to say you should dismiss it outright, since it's a highly impressive and ambitious undertaking unlike any other before, ultimately hitting more of its lofty targets than it misses."
- Warhammer: Mark Of Chaos - Battle March - GameSpot
6.0 "Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Battle March is for dedicated fans only. Its depiction of the sinister Warhammer Old World fantasy setting is remarkably true to the tabletop game, but the gameplay feels a little past its best-by date due to the continuing disappointment of the bland campaign structure and mission design."
- Mount & Blade - GameSpot
6.0 "As it is, though, this RPG provides a lot of sizzle and little steak. It is still worth keeping an eye on, as the developers and an ever-growing mod community are continually enhancing the game. Just don't expect too much right now if you're coming to this indie from more professional games with higher production values. "
- Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization - Eurogamer
8.0 "Cherished heirlooms need a bit of dusting and restoration now and again. What they don't need is to be 'expanded', 'improved', or 're-imagined'. Civilization IV: Colonization is great because Colonization was great. It sweeps you along in the same birchbark-canoe-on-a-raging-river manner. It keeps you away from mattress and mates just as effectively. If only more remakes were this sensitive."
- Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People Episode 2: Strong Badia The Free - Jolt.co.uk
8.0 "Although Strong Badia the Free is a shorter episode than Homestar Ruiner, it’s more perfectly formed. It might even be a better ‘first episode’ for players that aren’t as familiar with the cartoons, due to the way it spotlights each of the characters. There are plenty of in-jokes, of course, and the humour is easily on a par with the best Strong Bad e-mail episodes, which we still highly recommend you check out first."

9.0 "Warhead was great fun and even the ending is better, and certainly less annoying than that of Crysis, but I did find it slightly too easy. I would heartily recommend anyone to buy it. Crysis Warhead can be picked up for around £18, is action packed and comes with a bonus disc containing Crysis Wars, an online blast-fest over 21 maps that I found to be highly enjoyable even if I did keep getting my virtual ass handed to me."

9.0 "In other words, there is no reason why anyone with a capable PC shouldn't play Crysis Warhead. It's more focused, it's more intense, and though it doesn't provide as much of the sandbox feel as Crysis veterans would wish for, it still delivers on every other front."
